外国语学院起源于1977年创办的郧阳师范高等专科学校英语系，2010年11月重组更名为外语系，2018年11月升格为外国语学院，承担全校专业外语、公共外语及国际留学生教学任务，并高质量完成(小学、初中英语骨干教师)国培项目、农村中学英语学科帮扶、外事外贸人员培训、地方文化国际推介、国际商贸洽淡等社会服务。现开设3个本科专业：英语（省级一流本科专业）、商务英语（省级特色专业）、日语；2个专科专业：小学英语教育（校级优势专业）、商务英语（湖北省高职重点专业）。
外院拥有一支素质高、水平优、能力强的教师队伍，职称、学源、学历、年龄结构较为合理。现有教职工80余人，其中教授、副教授40余人，博士研究生、硕士研究生70余人；常年聘有英语、日语外教3人，并从武汉大学、华中科技大学、华中师范大学等知名高校聘有客座教授20余名，从周边高校、重点中学、外贸企业选聘兼职教师20余名。现有十堰市五一劳动奖章获得者1名、十堰市社科优秀工作者1名、“汉江师范学院课程思政教学团队” 2个、“汉江师范学院课程思政教学名师” 10名、硕士研究生导师3名、师德标兵1名、教学明星3名、科研明星3名、青年教学能手1名，“优秀教师” “优秀共产党员” “优秀党务工作者”多名，多名教师获得“教学之星”大赛全国特等奖、一等奖、全国高校日语电子课件大赛二等奖、湖北省高校教师创新教学大赛三等奖、汉江师范学院课程思政教学比赛一等奖、汉江师范学院青年教师教学竞赛一等奖等奖项。学院强化应用型人才培养，选派教师参与十堰市人民政府、东风汽车公司、武当山旅游经济特区等单位国际交流活动，赴英国、美国、日本等国学习交流或从事对外汉语教学工作。
近年来，外院持续深化教学改革，强化学科建设、专业建设、课程建设、教学团队建设，人才培养质量和社会美誉度稳步提升。《中国教育报》于2022年、2024年两次报道外院教育教学成果。英语专业2021年获批“湖北省一流本科专业建设点”，2024年11月接受了教育部师范类专业认证。2022年，《大学英语》获批省级一流本科课程、大学英语教研室获批“湖北省优秀基层教学组织”。2023年，英语语言文学教研室获批“湖北省优秀基层教学组织”、外语学科教学论（对外汉语）教研室获批“汉江师范学院优秀基层教学组织”。2024年，《英汉汉英笔译》《中国文化概要》获批省级一流本科课程。《综合英语》《商务英语精读》获评省级精品资源共享课程。《美国文学史》《大学英语》《翻译理论与实践》《英语语法》《中国文化概论》《基础日语》等6门课程建成汉江师范学院一流本科课程。《翻译理论与实践》《基础日语》《中国文化概要》获批汉江师范学院课程思政示范课程；《翻译理论与实践》《中国文化概要》获批汉江师范学院课程思政教学团队。《基础英语》《小学英语教师职业技能》《魔“方”作文 — 大学英文写作》3门课程为汉江师范学院在线开放课程。
外院现有6个教研室、1个外语学习中心、3个校级科研平台（外国语言文化研究中心、跨文化交际研究中心、亚非教育共同体研究中心），支持教师成立学术共同体，开展有组织教研科研活动。据不完全统计，近年来，外院教师累计主编、参编教材50余部；在各级各类学术期刊上发表学术论文600余篇，其中部分论文发表在核心期刊，并被人大复印资料等机构转载或收录；教育部、省级教研科研立项10余项，市厅级、校级教研科研立项50余项；多人荣获十堰市社会科学优秀成果奖。
外院遵循“育人为本、徳育为先、能力为重、外语为基、师范为核、应用为要”教育理念，围绕学生成长成才，服务“中国文化走出去”战略，致力于培养学生坚定中国文化自信，具有全球视野、拥有外语能力、通晓国际规则、掌握跨文化交际能力和全球胜任力，为地方教育、外事、经贸、科技等行业输送大量应用型、复合型、高素质外语专业人才。学院全面实施“外语能力提升工程 — 日周月年工程”。始于2001年的“中外文化节”已成为学院品牌活动，每年举办“外国语大讲堂” “外语演讲大赛” “外文歌曲合唱大赛” “外文书写大赛” “外文短剧大赛” “外文电影配音大赛” “师范生教学技能大赛” “跨文化交际能力大赛” “湖北省翻译大赛” “全国大学生英语词汇能力大赛”等系列专业赛事学术活动，充分调动学生学外语、讲外语、用外语的积极性，丰富学生第二课堂，提升学生综合素质，增强学生就业创业竞争力。外院毕业生已成为各行政事业单位、外国语学校、县市区中小学、外资企业、高校等单位业务骨干、管理精英、教授（博导硕导），获得社会各界广泛赞誉。多名学生在十堰市、湖北省、全国学科专业和文体艺术比赛中斩获大奖，如：全国大学生外语水平能力大赛一等奖、全国大学生英语词汇及综合能力大赛一等奖、湖北省翻译大赛特等奖/一等奖、第四届中华经典诵读大赛湖北省决赛一等奖、“外研社·国才杯”全国英语阅读写作大赛（湖北赛区）一等奖、湖北省师范生教学技能竞赛二等奖、“田家炳杯”全国师范院校师范生教学技能竞赛二等奖，高校英语教育师范生教学技能大赛一、二等奖，受到湖北日报、十堰市人民政府等单位表扬感谢。学生专四、专八、教师资格证通过率逐年提升（已超过80%），150余名本科毕业生考取国内外研究生。
外院长期秉持“党建引领、立德树人、三全育人、五育并举”的教育理念，坚守专业内涵、守正创新、持续改进，打造专业特色，教师教育科学规范、职业教育特色鲜明，荣获“全国巾帼文明岗”荣誉称号。外院分党委坚持实施“党员领航工程”，先后获得“十堰市先进基层党组织” “十堰市创先争优先进基层党组织” “湖北省大学生思想政治教育工作先进基层单位” “全省高校党建工作标杆院系”等荣誉称号，学生党支部入选“第二批全国党建工作样板支部”，4支暑期社会实践团队获团中央表彰。

School of Foreign Languages, HJNU
School of Foreign Languages originated from English Department of Yunyang Teachers’ College, founded in 1977. In November 2010, it was reorganized and renamed as Department of Foreign Languages. In November 2018, it was upgraded to School of Foreign Languages, responsible for teaching professional foreign languages, public foreign languages, and international students in Hanjiang Normal University. we actively participates in national training programs for primary and junior high school English teachers, rural high school English subject assistance, foreign affairs and foreign trade personnel training, local cultural international promotion, international trade negotiations, and other social services. We currently offer three undergraduate majors: English (provincial-level first-class undergraduate major), Business English (provincial-level characteristic major), and Japanese; Two specialized majors: Primary School English Education and Business English.
We have a high-quality, excellent, and capable teaching team, with a reasonable structure in terms of professional titles, academic sources, education, and age. There are currently over 80 faculty members, including more than 40 professors and associate professors, and over 70 doctors and masters; We have employed three English and Japanese foreign teachers throughout the year, and have hired more than 20 guest professors from well-known universities such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Huazhong Normal University. We have also selected more than 20 part-time teachers from surrounding universities, key middle schools, and foreign trade enterprises. There is currently one winner of the May Day Labor Medal in Shiyan City, one outstanding social science worker in Shiyan City, two "Hanjiang Normal University Course Ideological and Political Teaching Teams", ten "Hanjiang Normal University Course Ideological and Political Teaching Masters", three master's supervisors, one teacher ethics model, three teaching stars, three scientific research stars, and one young teaching expert. There are many "Excellent Teachers", "Excellent CPC Members", and "Excellent Party Workers", and many teachers have won national and provincial prizes and other awards. we have always strengthened the cultivation of applied talents, recommended teachers to participate in international exchange activities organized by the People's Government of Shiyan City, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Wudang Mountains Tourism Economic Zone and other units, and selected teachers to study and exchange in countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan, and engage in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
In recent years, we have continuously deepened teaching reforms, strengthened discipline construction, major construction, curriculum construction, and teaching team construction, and steadily improved the quality of talent cultivation and social reputation. China Education Daily reported on the educational and teaching achievements of SFL twice in 2022 and 2024. English Major was approved as a "First-class undergraduate major construction site in Hubei Province" in 2021, and received certification for teacher education majors from the Ministry of Education in November 2024. In 2022, "College English" was approved as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate course, and College English Teaching and Research Section was approved as an "Excellent Grassroots Teaching Organization in Hubei Province". In 2023, English Language and Literature Teaching and Research Section was approved as an "Excellent Grassroots Teaching Organization in Hubei Province", and Foreign Language Teaching Theory (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) Teaching and Research Section was approved as an "Excellent Grassroots Teaching Organization" at Hanjiang Normal University. In 2024, "EC /CE Translation" and "Overview of Chinese Culture" were approved as Provincial first-class undergraduate courses. Comprehensive English and Business English Intensive Reading have been awarded as provincial quality resource sharing courses. Six courses, including "History of American Literature," "College English," "Translation Theory and Practice," "English Grammar," "Introduction to Chinese Culture," and "Basic Japanese," have been established as first-class undergraduate courses at Hanjiang Normal University. Translation Theory and Practice, Basic Japanese, and Overview of Chinese Culture have been approved as exemplary courses for ideological and political education at Hanjiang Normal University; Translation Theory and Practice and Overview of Chinese Culture have been approved the ideological and political education teaching team of Hanjiang Normal University. The three courses, "Basic English" "Professional Skills for Primary School English Teachers" and "Magic Formula Composition - College English Writing" are online open courses offered by Hanjiang Normal University.
There are currently 6 teaching and research sections, 1 foreign language learning center, and 3 research platforms (Foreign Language and Culture Research Center, Cross Cultural Communication Research Center, and Asia Africa Education Community Research Center), supporting teachers to establish academic communities and carry out organized teaching and research activities. According to incomplete statistics, in recent years, teachers have edited and participated in the compilation of more than 50 textbooks; Published over 600 academic papers in various academic journals, some of which were published in core journals and have been reprinted or included by institutions such as Renmin University of China's photocopying materials; More than 10 research and development projects have been approved by the Ministry of Education and Hubei Province, and over 50 research and development projects have been approved by Shiyan City and HJNU; Many teachers have won Excellent Achievement Award in Social Sciences of Shiyan City.
We follow the educational philosophy of "education oriented, moral education first, ability oriented, foreign language based, teacher education as the core, and application oriented", focusing on students' growth and development, serving the strategy of "Chinese culture going global", committed to cultivating students' firm confidence in Chinese culture, possessing a global perspective, foreign language proficiency, understanding international rules, mastering cross-cultural communication skills and global competence, and providing a large number of applied, composite, and high-quality foreign language professionals for local education, foreign affairs, economy and technology industries. We have been fully implementing "Foreign Language Ability Enhancement Project - DWMY Projects". "Chinese and Foreign Culture Festival", which began in 2001, has become a brand activity of SFL. Every year, a series of professional academic events such as "Foreign Language Lecture Hall", "Foreign Language Speech Competition", "Foreign Language Song Chorus Competition", "Foreign Language Writing Competition", "Foreign Short Drama Competition", "Foreign Language Film Dubbing Competition", "Teaching Skills Competition for Normal Students", "Cross Cultural Communication Ability Competition", "Hubei Translation Competition", "National College English Vocabulary Ability Competition" are held to fully mobilize students' enthusiasm for learning, speaking and using foreign languages, enrich students' extracurricular activities, enhance their comprehensive quality, and strengthen their competitiveness in employment and entrepreneurship. Graduates have become business backbones, management elites, and professors (doctoral and master's supervisors) in various administrative institutions, foreign language schools, primary and secondary schools, foreign-funded enterprises, universities, and other units, and have received widespread praise from all sectors of society. Several students have won major awards in subject majors and cultural and artistic competitions in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, and China. They have been praised and thanked by Hubei Daily, Shiyan Municipal People's Government and other units. The passing rate of students' professional qualifications for TEM-4, TEM-8, and teacher qualifications has been increasing year by year (exceeding 80%), and more than 120 undergraduate graduates have been admitted to domestic and foreign graduate programs.
