 外国语学院简介


外国语学院起源于1977年创办的郧阳师范专科学校英语系,2010年11月重组更名为外语系,2018年11月升格为外国语学院,承担全校专业外语、公共外语及国际留学生教学任务,并高质量完成(小学、初中英语骨干教师)国培项目、农村中学英语学科帮扶、外事外贸人员培训、地方文化国际推介、国际商贸洽淡等社会服务。现开设3个本科专业:英语省级一流本科专业;校友会2025中国大学专业排名129,获评4星级应用型专业/位列高水平应用型专业行列)、商务英语省级特色专业;2025软科中国大学专业排名183/排名层次B)、日语;2个专科专业:小学英语教育(校级优势专业)、商务英语(湖北省高职重点专业)。

外院拥有一支素质高、水平优、能力强的教师队伍,职称、学源、学历、年龄结构合理。现有教职工80余人,其中教授、副教授40余人,博士10余人;聘有英语、日语外教6人,并从周边高校、重点中学、外贸企业选聘兼职教师30余名。现有“湖北省课程思政教学团队”1个、湖北省课程思政教学名师7人、十堰市五一劳动奖章获得者1名、十堰市社科优秀工作者1名、“汉江师范学院课程思政教学团队”2个、硕士研究生导师3名,多名教师获得“教学之星”大赛全国特等奖、一等奖、课程思政全国一等奖、全国高校日语电子课件大赛二等奖、湖北省高校教师创新教学大赛三等奖、汉江师范学院课程思政教学比赛一等奖、汉江师范学院青年教师教学竞赛一等奖等奖项。学院强化应用型人才培养,选派教师参与十堰市人民政府、东风汽车公司、武当山旅游经济特区等单位国际交流活动,赴英国、美国、韩国、日本等国学习交流。

近年来,外院持续深化教学改革,强化学科建设、专业建设、课程建设、教学团队建设,人才培养质量和社会美誉度稳步提升。《中国教育报》于2022年、2024年两次报道外院教育教学成果。英语专业2021年获批“湖北省一流本科专业建设点”,2024年11月接受了教育部师范类专业认证。2022年,大学英语获批省级一流本科课程、大学英语教研室获批“湖北省优秀基层教学组织”。2023年,英语语言文学教研室获批“湖北省优秀基层教学组织”。2024年,《英汉汉英笔译》《中国文化概要》获批省级一流本科课程。2025年,《中国文化概要》获批湖北省课程思政示范课程。2026年,“生态重构·范式创新·协同共育:数智赋能的混合式英语教学改革与实践”获评湖北省高等教育(本科)教学成果奖二等奖

外院现有8个教研室、1个外语学习中心、3个校级科研平台(外国语言文化研究中心、跨文化交际研究中心、亚非教育共同体研究中心),鼓励支持教师开展有组织教研科研活动。据不完全统计,近年来,外院教师累计主编、参编教材50余部;在各级各类学术期刊上发表学术论文600余篇,其中部分论文发表在核心期刊,并被人大复印资料等机构转载或收录;教育部、省级教研科研立项10余项,市厅级、校级教研科研立项60余项;多人荣获十堰市社会科学优秀成果奖。

外院遵循“育人为本、徳育为先能力为重、外语为基、师范为核、应用为要”教育理念,贯彻“学生中心、产出导向、持续改进”人才培养体系理念,坚持师范底色,突出应用特色,围绕学生成长成才,服务“中国文化走出去”战略,致力于培养学生坚定中国文化自信,具有全球视野、拥有外语能力、通晓国际规则、掌握跨文化交际能力和全球胜任力,为地方教育、外事、经贸、科技等行业输送大量具有全球视野、创新精神和实践能力的新时代高素质外语人才,毕业生拥有高度的社会责任感和崇高的理想追求,具有良好的专业素质和就业竞争力,已成为各行政事业单位、外资企业、外国语学校、中小学、高校等单位业务骨干、管理精英、教授(博导硕导),活跃在教育、翻译、外贸、外事、文化传播等多个领域。

学院全面实施“外语能力提升工程—日周月年工程”,持续举办“中外文化节”之学术讲座、“外语演讲大赛”“外文歌曲合唱大赛”“外文书写大赛”“外文短剧大赛”“外文电影配音大赛”“师范生教学技能大赛”“跨文化交际能力大赛”“湖北省翻译大赛”“全国大学生英语词汇能力大赛”等系列专业赛事活动,充分调动学生学外语、讲外语、用外语的积极性,丰富学生第二课堂,提升学生综合素质,增强学生就业创业竞争力。多名学生在十堰市、湖北省、全国学科专业和文体艺术比赛中斩获大奖,如:全国大学生外语水平能力大赛一等奖、全国大学生英语词汇及综合能力大赛一等奖、湖北省翻译大赛特等奖/一等奖、第四届中华经典诵读大赛湖北省决赛一等奖、“外研社·国才杯”全国英语阅读写作大赛(湖北赛区)一等奖、湖北省师范生教学技能竞赛二等奖、湖北省大学生“用英语讲好中国故事”优秀短视频大赛二等奖、“田家炳杯”全国师范院校师范生教学技能竞赛二等奖,高校英语教育师范生教学技能大赛一、二等奖,受到湖北日报、十堰市人民政府等单位表扬感谢。学生专四、专八、教师资格证通过率逐年提升(已超过80%)毕业生考研成功率逐年上升,有200余名学生考取华中师范大学、北京科技大学、澳大利亚昆士兰大学等国内外知名高校研究生。

外院长期秉持“党建引领、立德树人、三全育人、五育并举”的教育理念,坚守专业内涵、守正创新、持续改进,打造专业特色,教师教育科学规范、职业教育特色鲜明,荣获“全国巾帼文明岗”荣誉称号。外院分党委坚持实施“党员领航工程”,先后获得“湖北省大学生思想政治教育工作先进基层单位”“全省高校党建工作标杆院系”等荣誉称号,学生党支部入选“第二批全国党建工作样板支部”,4支暑期社会实践团队获团中央表彰。2026年3月,《光明日报》报道“汉江师范学院外国语学院: 创建高校党建品牌 探索“党建+”融合模式”

School of Foreign Languages, Hanjiang Normal University

Profile


School of  Foreign Languages (SFL) traces its origins back to the English Department of  Yunyang Teachers’ College, founded in 1977. It was reorganized and renamed Department of  Foreign Languages in November, 2010, and was elevated to School of  Foreign Languages in November,2018. SFL is responsible for the teaching of specialized foreign language courses, general  English/ Japanese / Frenchcourses for the entire university, and courses for international students. Ithasalso successfully deliveredsocial services including National Training Program for rural primary and secondary school English teachers, English subject assistance for rural middle schools, training for foreign affairs and trade personnel, international promotion of local culture, and international business negotiation. SFL currently offers three undergraduate programs: English (Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program), Business English (Provincial Specialty Program), and Japanese; and two associate degree programs: Primary School English Education and Business English (Hubei Provincial Key Vocational Program).

SFL boasts a highly qualified, excellent, and capable faculty with a well-structured mix of professional titles, academic backgrounds, educational qualifications, and ages. It currently has over 80 faculty and staff members, including more than 40 professors and associate professors and over 10 PhD holders; six international teachers of  English and Japanese; and over 30 part-time instructors selected from neighboring universities, key secondary schools, and foreign trade enterprises. SFL is home to one Hubei Provincial Curriculum Ideology and Politics Teaching Team, seven Hubei Provincial Curriculum Ideology and Politics Master Teachers, one recipient of Shiyan May Day Labor Medal, one Shiyan City Outstanding Contributor in Social Sciences, two Hanjiang Normal University Curriculum Ideology and Politics Teaching Teams, three Master's Student Supervisors. Many faculty members have won national special prizes and first prizes in the "Teaching Star" competition, national first prizes in Curriculum Ideology and Politics, second prize in the National College Japanese E-courseware Competition, third prize in the Hubei Provincial University Faculty Teaching Innovation Competition, first prize in Hanjiang Normal University Curriculum Ideology and Politics Teaching Competition, and first prize in Hanjiang Normal University Young Faculty Teaching Competition. SFL emphasizes the cultivation of applied talents, selecting faculty to participate in international exchange activities for Shiyan Municipal People's Government, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Wudang Mountains Tourism Economic Zone, and to undertake study and exchange visits to the United Kingdom, the United States, South Korea, Japan, and other countries.

In recent years, SFL has consistently deepened teaching reform and strengthened disciplinary development, program construction, course building, and teaching team development, leading to steady improvement in the quality of talent cultivation and its social reputation. China Education Daily reported on SFL's educational achievements in 2022 and 2024. English Programwas approved as a Hubei Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program Development Site in 2021 and underwent the Ministry of  Education's teacher education program accreditation in November 2024. In 2022, College English course was approved as a Hubei Provincial First-class Undergraduate Course, and College English Teaching & Research Section was approved as a Hubei Provincial Outstanding Grassroots Teaching Organization. In 2023, English Language & Literature Teaching and Research Division was approved as a Hubei Provincial Outstanding Grassroots Teaching Organization. In 2024, English-Chinese/Chinese-English Translation and Introduction to Chinese Culture were approved as Hubei Provincial First-class Undergraduate Courses. In 2025, Introduction to Chinese Culture was approved as a Hubei Provincial Curriculum Ideology and Politics Demonstration Course. In 2026, the Project "Ecological Reconstruction, Paradigm Innovation, and Collaborative Co-education: Digitally Empowered Blended English Teaching Reform and Practice"was offered asa Second Prize for Hubei Provincial Higher Education (Undergraduate) Teaching Achievement.

SFL has eight teaching and researchdivisions, one Foreign Language Learning Center, and three university-level research platforms (Center for Foreign Language and Culture Studies, Center for Intercultural Communication Studies, Center for Asia-Africa Educational Community Studies), encouraging and supportingthefaculty in organized research and scholarly activities. Incomplete statistics show that in recent years, SFL faculty have authored or edited over 50 textbooks, published over 600 academic papers in various journals, with some papers published in core journals and reprinted or indexed by institutions like Renmin University of China's Copy Center for Social Sciences. They have secured over 10 research projects at the Ministry of  Education and provincial level, over 60 at  the city/prefecture and university levels, and many have received Shiyan City Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards.

SFL adheres to the educational philosophy of "Student-oriented, Morality First, Competence-focused, Foreign Language as Foundation, Teacher Education as Core, Application as Goal" and implements the talent cultivation system principles of "Student-Centered, Outcome-Based, Continuous Improvement." Upholding its strength in teacher education while highlighting applied features, SFL focuses on student growth and development, serving the national strategy of "Chinese Culture Going Global." It is dedicated to cultivating students' confidence in Chinese culture, fostering global perspectives, foreign language proficiency, understanding of international rules, intercultural communication skills, and global competence. It provides a large number of  high-quality foreign language talents with global vision, innovative spirit, and practical abilities for local education, foreign affairs, economic and trade, science and technology, and other sectors. Graduates possess a strong sense of social responsibility and noble ideals, demonstrate strong professional competence and job market competitiveness. They have become key personnel, management elites, professors (PhD supervisors/masters advisors), active in diverse fields including education, translation, international trade, foreign affairs, and cultural dissemination.

SFL comprehensively implements "Foreign Language Proficiency Enhancement Project — Daily-Weekly-Monthly-Annual Project" and continuously hosts a series of professional competitions and activities under "Chinese-Foreign Culture Festival," including academic lectures, foreign language speech contests,   foreign language choir competitions, foreign language calligraphy contests, foreign language skit competitions, foreign language dubbing competitions, pre-service teaching skills competitions, intercultural communication skills competitions, Hubei Translation Contest, and National English Vocabulary Proficiency Competition for College Students, whichfully mobilize student enthusiasm for learning, speaking, and using foreign languages, enrich their extracurricular learning, enhance their overall competence, and boost their competitiveness for employment and entrepreneurship. Numerous students have won major prizes in municipal, provincial, and national academic, professional, cultural, and artistic competitions. Examples include first prize in the National College Foreign Language Proficiency Competition, first prize in National English Vocabulary and Comprehensive Ability Competition, special prize/first prize in Hubei Translation Contest, first prize (Hubei final) of the Fourth Chinese Classics Recitation Contest, first prize in "FLTRP·Unipus" National English Reading and Writing Competition (Hubei Division), second prize in the Hubei Provincial Pre-service Teacher Skills Competition for Normal University Students, second prize in Hubei Provincial University Students' "Telling China's Story Well in English" Outstanding Short Video Competition, second prize in "Tian Jiabing Cup" National Pre-service Teacher Skills Competition for Normal University Students, and first/second prizes in English Education Pre-service Teacher Skills Competition for University Students. SFL has received commendations from Hubei Daily and Shiyan Municipal People's Government. Student pass rates for TEM-4, TEM-8, and Teacher Qualification Certificate are increasing year by year (exceeding 80%). The success rate for graduates entering postgraduate studies is also steadily rising, with over 200 students admitted to prestigious universities in China and abroad, such as Central China Normal University, Beijing University of  Science and Technology, and University of Queensland, Australia.

SFL consistently adheres to the educational principles of "the Party Building Guidance, Fostering Virtue and Cultivating Talent, Three-Whole Education (whole-staff, whole-process, all-round), and Five-Education Integration (moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education)."SFL steadfastly maintains its professional focus, pursues innovation while ensuring continuous improvement, and builds distinctive program features. Its teacher education is scientific and standardized, while its vocational education has distinct characteristics. SFL has been honored with the title of  National Women's Achievement Model Post. SFL Sub-Party Committee persistently implements "Vanguard Project for Party Members" and has successively received awards including Hubei Provincial Advanced Grassroots Unit for University Student Ideological and Political Education and Hubei Provincial Model Party Organization (at the departmental level) intheParty Building Work in Higher Education Institutions. Student Party Branch has been selected as one of the Second Batch of National Model Party Branches for the Party Building Work. Four summer social practice teams have received commendations from the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. In March 2026, Guangming Daily reported on SFL with the Article "School of  Foreign Languages, Hanjiang Normal University: Creating a Brand for University Party Building and Exploring a 'Party Building +' Integrated Model."
